I'm on the mailing list of Mr Porter, and I got one through today about Peacoats and how they're perfect for your staple wardrobe. They work so well because they make the transition into Spring from Winter so much easier, they're casual and light but will keep you warm, and lighter colour ones like beige and cream work well in the summer too, they're classic and will last you years (the more you pay however). I love them, these ones are quite pricey, I'll have to have a search for some High St ones but, designer=better quality & longer lasting, so they might be worth the hefty price tag!!

RAG & BONE Cotton Pea Coat 455GBP |
I especially like the Rag & Bone one above, it would be perfect for Spring. They work so well because they're so multi-functional in the way you wear them. Buttoned up they look smart and will keep you warm, unbuttoned makes them more casual and are perfect for warmer days, and putting the collar up will give the whole overall effect of the peacoat a much more edgy look.
Onto the High St...

River Island Brown Shawl Collar Double Breasted Peacoat 40 GBP |
Topman Black Cotton Twill Peacoat 76GBP |
Topman Taupe Funnel Jersey Peacoat 48GBP |
Some of these are great, and hold great price tags too. I especially like the green River Island one, it's a bit different and at that price it's a bargain. The Jersey Funnel one from Topman is completely different style peacoat and perfect for a casual look. It's all about the attention seeking neck and military style shoulder work, I love this!
So this shows that you don't have to spend a fortune to look good, but I do always think that designer pieces will last longer and will be more of an investment. Going for a Peacoat is good because it doesn't go out of fashion, so spending that little bit extra might be worth it in the long run and save you buying a new one every year.
