OSCARS 2011- hits and misses & a few blasts from the past...

So it's that time of year again, and everyone starts 'buzzing' for the Oscars and the nominees come out and everyone holds their own opinion blah blah blah... to tell the truth i'm really not big on awards ceremonies, if it wasn't for the red carpet glamour I don't think anyone would be as interested, the ceremonies themself bore me to tears, it's just funny to see the actors faces when they don't get the Oscar.

But, I understand, it's a big deal, and in the fashion world it's even bigger and we're left for weeks after still laughing at what some people wore, still dying over some gorgeous ball gown and still left puzzled over some stars bizarre choice of dress?

Ideally I'd love to do a post on mens fashion at the Oscars but after extensive research, it's the same thing 50+ times, black tux, black suit, black suit, white shirt, black tie. Some get a bit wacky and go for a white suit (t a c k) but all in all it's pretty same same. Nothing interesting enough to write about. So i've gone through the best and worst from 2011, found some gorgeous dresses, some horrendous and some... meh.

MY SHINING STARS...

OK, so look past the dodgy back, and I think CATE BLANCHETT did something a bit different here. Apart from the yellow collar, the front looks classy and elegant. The detail is gorgeous and I'm loving the hair, it upsets me to see women over a certain age with ridiculously long hair, it suits you better shorter when you're older, fact.

Another one that was a bit different, I still can't decide. FLORENCE WELCH always stands out from the crowd, and this is no exception. Comments anyone? I'm stuck.
I'm not a huge fan of 'girl-next-door' ANNE HATHAWAY, but she looks chic & classy in this floor length FIRE ENGINE red ball gown. The detail on the side is a bit... off... but it suits her, it matches her pasty skin tone which I guess is a plus...

GWENYTH PALTROW has had a few hits and misses over the years, and like Florence Welch, i'm a bit indecisive  on this one.  I love how she always brings and element of sex appeal to her outfits, which I think really hots up the Oscars cos it can get boring, but the weird belt thing and the over shiny-ness. Hmm.

HALLE BERRY works it girrrrl! She's deffo a show-stopper & no way did she NOT stand out from the crowd in this little beauty. Different, a bit wild but still elegant. Love for Halle!

JENNIFER HUDSON goes classic Hollywood in this whirlwind twister ruby red ball gown. I think it's fabulous and enhances that FIERCE cleavage she possesses.

MANDY MOORE looks nice. Yeah, nice. It could be a bit braver, it looks like it's getting exciting and then kind of... dies a death!? Just get into it, stop fitting a pole up your ass and have some fun. Mandy, not a bad effort (haha)

Look past the 'pint of Guiness' look, & REESE WITHERSPOON is rocking outt! It's a fabulous dress and she looks comfortable, stylish but not too overboard. I've got big love ever since she starred in 'Walk The Line' (one of my favourites), and she hasn't let me down, you go girl!

It's now time for me to get a bit bitchy, MY FLASH IN THE PAN FASHION DISASTERS...give me strength

BUSY PHILLIPPS working the sweet wrapper look here. Honey, go join your Willy Wonka co-stars over there >>>

HELENA BONHAM-CARTER, velvet? Really? Addams family couture has made a comeback this 2011 Spring/Summer has it?
F.A.I.L
C.R.I.N.G.E

I have a genuine reason for taking a immediate dislike to this dress. Don't laugh, but I'm petrified of Ostriches. Have been since I had a season pass to Whipsnade zoo as a child. HILLARY SWANK, please. Every year we get the Ostrich? Every year I shudder with disgust.

MELISSA LEO... now I remember what happened to that tablecloth I made back in Year 1... this hoe stole it.

This isn't so bad. It's cute in-fact, but I'm not loving the wrapping paper effect.

Memoirs of a Geisha meets the Oscars 2011. *Shudders* NICOLE KIDMAN, biggest fail of the evening? I think so too. It's un-flattering, makes her legs look weird (the bits that poke out), ORANGE SHOES? Peacock feather on the bust? And those hips!?

VIRGINIA MADESEN, just looks cheap. End of.

& now for a few blasts from the past... *can't watch*

CHARLIE THERON ISSSS gorgeous. But this, far from gorgeous. What's it making her body do. She looks a bit deformed, and the material looks cheap.

Uhhhhm UMA THERMAN. Is this some kind of Mamma Mia Meryl Streep take on the Oscars. She clearly found some spare material in the textiles department of her local high school, made a belt and thought 'Hey I look hot!'. Babe, you thought wrong.
Someone struggling with curtain syndrome again... Zooey Deschanel, (it's funny how 'Chanel' is in her surname and she still looks shit), this one's badly made (the dress not her) hangs awkwardly, (off the shoulder gone wrong) and ... i'm speechless. For once.

Yes. I let rip here. The Oscars is that one time of year I feel I can express my hatred for some shocking designs and kind of get away with it. Hope you enjoyed it,

UMM? NME Awards 2011... SHOCKING!

I was bitterly, bitterly disappointed in some of the majority of the outfits worn at the NME Awards this year. BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED.

Really, you'd think that these artists/celebs would consult a stylist before going to a major awards evening? OK, it's not the Oscars or the Grammys, but it's a big deal right? And if they did consult a stylist, it's a clear case of a SACK THE STYLIST scenario. Not good.

Maria Diamandis & Natalie Imbrulia really don't work these outfits. Leather shorts Natalie? Really? And please, slits right up to your thigh on an already tacky dress really just ruin any glamour you are trying to possess.

I am GUTTED over Alexa Chung's outfit choice. That dress. It gives me a headache, it's like something David Bowie would have worn whilst performing Ziggy Stardust. A usual favourite in the fashion department, she even had a MULBERRY BAG named after her, Alexa, you have let me down. Pixie Geldof, you just look like a hooker who stepped out of the 90's. Nuff said.

Juliette Lewis (never heard of her but those pants) & Jamie Winstone really don't hold any class whatsoever here. I know the NME Awards isn't really about classy & sophisticated but a denim shirt? Uhmmm...

Bless Nikki Grahame, god love her, trying to get around on crutches, but a bit of effort never hurt anyone. Don't speak to me about PJ Harvey, the outfit speaks for itself, CLOWN!

Rant over kids, sorry if I went a bit OTT with the rudeness there, (especially Pixie Geldof, I usually love her but I couldn't resist)... It's such a pain when stars have such potential but don't use it eh?!

Night lovelies,

The Only Way Is Forever Unique?

Well, I must admit, The Only Way Is Essex is my real guilty pleasure. I know it's probably fake and all put on for the cameras but I can't help but love it! All the glitz and all the drama, what more could you want! I'm the true definition of a reality TV junkie and I LOVE IT!

So it's great to see some of the girls from TOWIE (haha, towie, that's cute) modeling the new Spring/Summer range for Forever Unique. Ever since my favourite WAG Alex Curran started designing for Forever Unique i've been a big fan, admittedly, some of their designs can be a little bit tacky, but if you look past the wannabe My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding designs, you can actually find some pretty decent stuff.

As we're approaching Spring/Summer, it's the start of Prom season. I love this time of year and seeing everyone's dresses for prom is almost as exciting as seeing what Lady Gaga wears to the Grammy's. I think it's important to keep it young and keep it fun, especially if it's your year 11 prom. Too many people dress too old for their own age, they look lovely but it's important to keep it fresh and a bit different! Which is why I love the Forever Unique prom dress range. Some designs could be suitable for Prom and others can just be worn as cute little cocktail dresses.

Here are a few images from the new collection...

As you can see, you could interpret some of the designs to be tacky and a bit too much but let's look on the bright side and have a bit of fun. A little bit of netting and a lorra lorra (Cilla style ;)) glitter never hurt anyone!

Have some fun at your prom and liven things up a bit girls,

Look of the week!

I wore this outfit to a little shindig my friend was having as she was leaving Dubai on Thursday night & then went onto Rockie B's! Lovely evening, a bit blurry when I think about it, too many drinkies!

Anyway, after a little wardrobe malfunction, I wore this blazer/jacket from River Island (women's section, yeahhh), shirt and jeans both from Pull & Bear (that shop's getting good- watch out!), white casual shoes (let's not say trainers) from Alexander McQueen and lots and lots and lots of chunky funky jewellry to spice things up a bit!

The shoulder pads on the blazer helped me out as I'm not very broad, I loved the length as well, although from some angles I did look as if I had very short legs, I do anyway but they looked even shorter! At first I was wary of the colours of the jacket matched with black and white but I'm confident it worked!

Lots of love

THANKYOU!

To everyone who's had a look at the blog today- it's been amazing! I'm so happy that Gok Wan tweeted me, & he tweeted with the link to my blog so my page views have SOARED, seeing as Gok has over 300,000 views on Twitter. So yes, we're currently on 750 page views and they're still going up :)

GET YOUR GOK SPECS NOW

As a huge, huge, HUGE fan of Gok Wan, i'm sooo excited about the new Gok Wan glasses range for Specsavers. The range is absolutely stunning and I'm definitely going to get a pair or two when I move back to the UK. They're reasonably priced, too, all glasses priced at 99GBP & some special 2for1 offers thrown in here & there too! The range is 'suitable for teenagers right up to people in their 50's & 60's...', interesting! Below are a couple of my favourite designs from the range, all the designs are classic but still hold the wow-factor, a bit like Gok & his eccentric personality himself! Love it!

'We're not going to hide behind our specs. My new range makes a real statement. Strong, sexy and glamorous – from now on, your outfit begins with your glasses.'

PS, if you haven't already read it, please please please go and buy Gok Wan's autobiography, 'Through Thick & Thin', I read it in 2 days (and that's saying something), it's absolutely amazing!!

PEG-LEGGED STARS

One of my favourite trends from the last year is definitely the 'Peg Leg' trouser. I just think it smartens up any outfit, and can be worn for any occasion, night out, work, shopping, ANYTHING.

I've sivved through the world wide web and found a few pics of celebs mastering the peg leg, and the odd one thrown in here & there who really (in my eyes) didn't pull it off. There's always one.

Nipped in at the waist, flowing down, and nipped in again just below the ankle, these trousers are perfect for nearly all figures, LOVE IT.

These two beauties have really worked the peg leg, like I said before, they really can be worn for any occasion. ASHLEY OLSEN rules the peg leg style on a night out here, teamed with a fitted blouse & a blazer. It's clear to see that these trousers go best with something more fitted on the top side of things, and obviously tucked in, they emphasise the gorgeous little nipped in waist.  FEARNE COTTON looks fabulous as usual, out shopping, teaming the peg legs with a plain white tee & a leopard print Mulberry Bayswater (designer-st loves this).
LOVE IT.

Now then... this outfit wasn't actually found in the 'Fashion Fail' section, but I however really wasn't feeling it.

RIHANNA really didn't do me proud here, I just think the whole thing looks tacky & trashy. This type of denim is a major turn-off for me anyway, I'm soon to shred a pair of jeans my mother brought in this style. The top looks something a hooker would go for, you're supposed to tuck the top you wear into the trousers, the little fleshy gap just doesn't go, and the tacky nail polish clashes. Sorry RiRi, F A I L.

Online shopping is a fabulous invention & if my post has inspired you even more to turn peg leg, have a look at some of my recommendations...

Outfit of the day...

Big it up for the Mama T!

I've always loved my mum's style, classic and classy. She dresses for comfort but always makes sure she looks nice, and I LOVED this outfit today & couldn't resist putting it on here... she'll die when she sees this bless her!

As my mum's a big tennis fan, she loves the Dubai Tennis Championships, and it's that time of year again so off she's gone with her friend and left me all alone at home. You guessed it, tennis isn't really my thing.

The main attraction of this outfit is the cardigan (from Wallis), I love the print and the shape, it hangs perfectly and just looks really comfortable! Teamed with a plain vest, white jeans and flip flops you can't go wrong! The outfit is complete with the gorgeous bag from Coach (a perfect little 'designer-st' mix there!)

Anyway, just thought it'd make a change to have someone from the more mature generation on here (hahahaha), and now you've met the lovely Mama T.

Topman- Spring/Summer... SHORTS

Something I always have trouble with buying is SHORTS.  They're either too long, too short, inbetween- I just look like a twat, so it's great when shops like Topman come up with a 'how to wear' part of their website and give helpful hints & tips, like they've done with the seasons trends for shorts.

I'm loving these three pairs of shorts. They're simple, classic, easygoing, perfect for an English summer's day (when that actually happens), and the warmer days of spring.

The shoes on the left & middle outfit bring out a real nautical look which is always nice for summer, and I'm liking the whole socks & deck shoes thing... I hate not wearing socks with shoes, blisters are bitches but I always thought it looks stupid, so I've always gone for flip flops, but I think this looks great so I'll deffo be opting for this look this year.
